Like many of Tadd Dameron's compositions, this comes from a large ensemble recording, but the melody can certainly be played in a small group context. Our audio excerpt starts with the melody. The recording and all of our lead sheets outline Tadd's eight-measure intro from his "Magic Touch" recording. To anyone who knows Tadd's writing, this is unmistakably Dameron, and wonderful.
This was recorded on the first "Magic Touch" session (February 27, 1962). Dameron's Just Plain Talkin', from this same album, is also available. It was played by a smaller group, with a few different musicians, and was recorded on the third "Magic Touch" session (April 16, 1962).
It was named for Maely Daniele Dufty's son, Bevan. Maely was Tadd's partner in some music business ventures.

He also recorded his own superb sextet for Blue Note Records in 1947 which featured trumpet great Fats Navarro. Read more...
