A Lucky Thompson classic, this elegant medium swinger has a relatively simple, "rhythm changes"-like chord progression. The A section melody of this 32-measure song runs mostly up and down an F major chord, focusing on the 7th and 9th. The bridge modulates to A major, and the melody focuses a bit on the 7th and 9th in that key as well. There are a few rhythm section figures at the end of each section, which line up with the melody notes.
Solos are on F "rhythm changes" with the bridge the same as the A section transposed up a 4th. On the recording, the out head starts at the bridge; our lead sheets have D.S. marked both at A and B of the head, and alternate endings for the solo chorus so you have the option of taking the head out with pickups to either A or B.
Our lead sheets show the coda from the recording, a two-measure piano break going to a final Cm7sus chord; Lucky Thompson's solo fill on the last chord is included. There is also a four-measure piano intro; this is shown in our C treble and bass clef lead sheets only.

Saxophonist Lucky Thompson is one of the great treasures of jazz. He was born in Columbia, South Carolina, but was raised in Detroit, Michigan. He played in local groups with Hank Jones, Sonny Stitt and others. In August, 1943, when he was 19, he left Detroit with Lionel Hampton's Orchestra, eventually arriving in New York City. Still a teenager, his first recording date was with Hot Lips Page on March 18, 1944. Later in 1944 he started recording with both Lucky Millinder and Count Basie. Read more...
